Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Monday, August 5th and we will be reading Matthew 14, 13 through 21.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 14, 13 through 21.
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a lonely place apart.
But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns.
As he went ashore, he saw a great throng, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, This is a lowly place, and the day is over now.
Send the crowds away to go to the villages and buy food for themselves.
Jesus said, They need not go away.
You give them something to eat.
They said to him, We only have five loaves here and two fish.
And he said, Bring them here to me.
Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples.
And the disciples gave them to the crowds, and they all ate and were satisfied.
And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces left over.
And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Today’s story is one of my brother’s favorite Bible stories.
I thought it would be fun for you guys to hear from him why it’s his favorite.
Take it away, Miles.
Hi, everybody.
This is Miles.
I’m Elise’s little brother.
Elise asked me to talk to you about the Bible reading from today.
It’s about the loaves and fish that Jesus multiplied from the crowd.
This is one of my favorite Bible stories.
It’s hard to think that it would be as nice as a boy to give my food over.
I bet he was just as hungry as everyone else.
He had a lot of trust that Jesus was powerful enough to feed the people from with his small basket.
How cool that the little boy got to help in God’s work.
The boy with the two fish and five loaves learned a lot today.
That God is control because he trusted God with something small.
Thanks, Miles.
That’s some good thoughts.
You did a good job.
I agree.
We should never think what we can do for Jesus is too small or unimportant.
The little boy had a simple lunch, but Jesus used it to feed lots of people.
I think we can also do small things that God will use to do big things.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear Jesus, thank you that nothing is impossible for you.
Please help us to always offer what we have to you.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
