Hello, everyone.
Welcome back.
My name is Elyse Brooklyn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Thursday, August 1st, and we’ll be reading Matthew 13, 47-53.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read Matthew 13, 47-53.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, which was thrown into the sea, and gathered fish of every kind.
When it was full, men drew it ashore, and sat down and stored the good into vessels, but threw away the bad.
So it will be at the close of age the angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Have you understood all this?
They said to him, Yes, and he said to them, Therefore, every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.
And when Jesus was finished these parables, he went away from there.
One time I watched this documentary type show of these fishermen who were catching fish for a restaurant to cook later.
It was so specific and interesting.
Each time they caught a certain size, they would get excited and had to weigh it.
It had to be an exact size or they would put it back into the ocean.
One time a man got super excited because it was super heavy to pull up.
When he got into the boat, it was a suitcase.
It was heavy because it was full of water.
That is what this parable is about.
Not everyone who hears about Jesus are good.
They can still choose to be bad.
So what I say today is to stay in the net of goodness and to serve Jesus.
I know I am.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you that we get to have our word to read and learn how to love you more.
Help us to live for you every day in all the things I do and decisions I make.
Amen.
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
