Hello, everyone.
Welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Thursday, July 25th, and we will be reading Matthew 20, 20-28.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read Matthew 20, 20-28.
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him and her sons, and kneeling before him, she asked him for something.
And he said to her, What do you want?
She said to him, Command that these two sons of mine may sit one at your right hand and one at your left in your kingdom.
But Jesus answered, You do not know what you are asking.
Are you able to drink the chalice that I am to drink?
They said to him, We are able.
He said to them, You will drink my chalice, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but is for those whom had been prepared by my Father.
And when the tent heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers.
But Jesus called to him and said, You know that the rule of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
It shall not be so among you, but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many.
Our family volunteers at St.
Joseph’s Social Service Center.
We have cooked a couple of different dishes, and we also serve people that come to the tables.
One time we went when it was pouring down rain and people were discouraged thinking not many would come because of the weather.
But we still made the noodles and chili and served with happy hearts.
What does Jesus say you have to do to be great?
You have to serve other people like a servant.
You have to help people.
God cares about if you’re helping other people or not.
Jesus said he came to serve people and help people when we should do the same.
Let’s pray.
Dear Jesus, thank you for coming to serve us and dying on the cross, taking the punishment for our sins.
Show us how we can serve other people too.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
