Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Wednesday, July 24th and we will be reading Matthew 13, 1-9.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 13, 1-9.
At the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea, and great crowds followed him.
So he got into a boat and sat there, and the whole crowd stood on the beach.
And he told them many things in parables, saying, A sower went out to sow, and as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and birds came and devoured them.
Other seeds fell on rocky ground, and there they had not much soil, and immediately they sprang up.
Since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched, and since they had no root, they withered away.
Other seeds fell upon the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
Other seeds fell on good soil, and brought forth grain, some of a hundredfold, some of sixty, some of thirty.
He who has ears let him hear.
We have a garden in our backyard.
We are growing pumpkins, beans, and carrots, radishes, and lettuce.
Sadly, only two plants that have survived are the pumpkin and beans.
The lettuce an animal got, probably a squirrel or chipmunk.
The radish accidentally got weed-whacked by our yard workers.
And carrots, well, they make me kind of think of today’s scripture.
They weren’t planted deep enough in the ground, so they didn’t get their roots down far enough.
And they were just stems.
Today’s reading is about how scripture needs to be planted in good, rich soil, so we can grow and learn from it.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you for your word, the Bible, and please help us to understand it, allow it to work in our hearts, amen.
In the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers, see ya!
