Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Friday, July 19th, and we will be reading Matthew 12, 1-8.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 12, 1-8.
At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath.
His disciples were hungry and they began to pluck heads off grain and to eat.
But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.
He said to them, Have you not read what David did when he was hungry and those who were with him, how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?
Or have you not read in the law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temples profane the Sabbath and are guiltless?
I tell you, something greater than the temple is here.
And if you had known what it means, I desire mercy, not sacrifice, you would not have condemned for the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.
Today we learn that Jesus is bigger than the rules of the Sabbath.
Jesus wanted people to know that He was greater.
We had a bunch of family over for Thanksgiving one year and nothing was going right for my mom.
She was crying and getting really stressed out.
Me, my dad, and my brother started to see how we could help her a little more.
And we finally all just started giggling and decided it wasn’t worth getting all worked up over.
We all ended up having a good time and my mom said, when it was all over, holidays are all supposed to be spending time about family and having fun.
She also said that next time we were just going to order pizza.
Then we all laughed again.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear Jesus, we pray that you will give us wisdom always to do the right thing and follow the rules that God gives us.
We love you.
Amen.
In Jesus' name, amen.
In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya!
