Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Tuesday, July 9th, and we will be reading Matthew 9, 32-38.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read Matthew 9, 32-38.
As they were going away, behold, a mute demonic was brought to him.
And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke, and the crowds marveled, saying, Never was anything like this seen in Israel.
But the Pharisees said, He casts out demons by the prince of his demons.
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the king to them, and healing every disease and every infirmity.
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.
Pray, therefore, the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
We used to have a plum tree at our old house when I was really little.
I used to help my mom make plum jam.
We have a picture of me, about three years old, standing on a stepstool, stirring a pot of fruit, and then pouring it into a bunch of glass jars lined up on the counter.
But before we could cook the fruit to get ready to the jar, we had to pick all the fruit off the tree.
We made sure we took the good fruit and not the ones that the birds have pecked holes in, because those holes cause mold and bugs get into the plums.
And if we left them too long, we would get molding from baking in the hot sun.
In a way, Jesus is telling us we are all like fruit pickers.
It’s important that we take time to tell others the gospel of Jesus.
That way, their hearts won’t get moldy or rotten left on the branch.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear Jesus, please show us ways of love to one another.
And to share the good news of Jesus, show us ways that we can love one another.
Thank you for the love in Jesus.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
