60. Thursday, July 4 2024

Hello everyone, welcome back.

My name is Evie Sbrooklin and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Thursday, July 4th and we will be reading Matthew 9, 1-8.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Matthew 9, 1-8.

And getting into the boat, he crossed over and came to his own city.

And behold, they brought to him a paralytic lying on his bed.

And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, Take heart, my son, your sins are forgiven.

And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, This man is blaspheming.

And Jesus knowing their thoughts, he said, Why do you think evil in your hearts?

For which is easier, to say your sins are forgiven, or to say, Rise and walk?

But you may not know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.

Then he said to the paralytic, Rise, take up your bed, and go home.

And he rose and went home.

When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

My grandma used to be a nurse when she was younger.

She let one of her old stethoscopes be a part of the dresser box at her house.

It really works.

We used to play with it for a long time.

We would run in place to make heartbeats faster and listen.

She never even taught us how to take a pulse or heart rate with a watch.

Jesus doesn’t need a stethoscope to understand what someone’s heart is like.

A man who was paralyzed’s biggest problem wasn’t on the outside, but on the inside.

Jesus offered the paralytic man physical healing and forgiveness of sin.

Jesus is the only one who can save people from their sins.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, thank you for giving us what we need when we need it.

Help us to trust in you when we work in ways that we don’t realize are for good.

We love you, God.

In Jesus' name, amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.

Thank you so much for this name.

I’ll be back tomorrow.

Scatter more flowers.

See ya!
