Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Thursday, June 27th, and we will be reading Matthew 7, 1-29.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read Matthew 7, 21-29.
Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall I enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
On the day, many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?
And then will I declare to them, I never knew you, depart from me, you evil doers.
Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like the wise men who built his house upon the rock, and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like the foolish men who built his house upon the sand, and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against the house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.
And Jesus finished these things, and the crowds were astonished at his teachings, for he taught them as one had authority and not as their scribes.
My cousin and I were at our grandma’s house racing each other to build the tallest Lego tower with these huge Lego-type blocks.
Hers crashed and she cried, and wouldn’t even try again, even though the timer was still going.
You know, mine didn’t crash, because I made the bottom pieces wider, so that they would hold up the tallness of my tower.
It’s like today’s reading.
Everyone who hears the word of God is building a house.
The one who hears God’s word but does not do it says it’s like the foolish builder who builds a house on the sand.
The house will be crushed in a storm, and the one who hears the word of God and obeys it like the wise man that builds a house on solid rock, the house will stand up to any storm.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to be wise people and build our faith on the foundation of God by reading our Bibles.
That way our faith will stand up against storms of life.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
