52. Monday, June 24 2024

Hello everyone, welcome back.

My name is Elise Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Monday, June 24th and we will be reading Luke 1, 57-66 and verse 80.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now let’s read Luke 1, 57-66 and verse 80.

Now the time came for Elizabeth to be delivered, and she gave birth to a son.

And the neighbors and kinsfolk heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her.

And on the 80th day they came to circumcise the child.

And they would have named him Zechariah, after his father, but his mother said, Not so, he shall be called John.

And they said to her, None of your kinsmen is called by this name.

And they made signs to his father, inquiring that he would have him called.

Then he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, His name is John.

They all marveled, and immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosened.

And he spoke, Blessing God! And fear came upon all their neighbors, and these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea.

And all who heard them laid up their hearts, saying, What then will this child be?

For the hand of the Lord was with him.

And the child grew and became strong in the Spirit, and he was in the wilderness till the day of the manifestation to Israel.

Have you ever played the game of telephone, where the first person says something and you whisper it around the circle till the last person says it out loud?

Most of the time, when it gets to the person who needs to say it out loud, it’s not usually the original thing the first person said.

Do you think people really don’t hear it properly, or do you think they just mess it up on purpose?

I think it’s a little bit of both, don’t you?

My brother actually hates this game because he doesn’t like the feel of people whispering in his ear.

It makes him shiver.

It makes me laugh because I thought about how the angel came to Elizabeth and Zachariah to give them messages.

The people were confused when they said, No, he will be called John.

They may have thought, Okay, who messed up the message on the telephone line of messages?

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to live up to the names we were given.

They have meaning and give us identification of who we are to be in Christ.

Thank you for saving us to make us have the best name of all, Christian.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
