Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Friday, June 21st, and we will be reading Matthew 6, 19-23.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read Matthew 6, 19-23.
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, for where moth and rust consumes, and where thieves break in and steal.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, for neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.
The eye is the lamp of the body, so if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness.
If then the sun in your darkness, how great the darkness! When I turned five and my brother was turning two, we had a joint birthday party, and the theme was mermaids and pirates.
One of the games my mom planned for all of us to play was she hid a bunch of little toys in our sand to dig for buried treasure.
A few years later, we kept finding fake gold coins.
Whoops! We must have not found all the goodies mom hid.
Kind of fun that even years of celebrating, we kept finding treasure.
The treasures we store in heaven that Jesus is talking about is things like focusing our joy on love and serving God and others.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Father Jesus, help us to store up heavenly treasures like joy and love so that we can be an example to others like of you.
Thank you.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya!
