Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Berklin and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Monday, June 17th and we will be reading Matthew 5, 38-42.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Matthew 5, 38-42.
You have heard that it is said, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
But I say to you, do not resist one who is evil, but if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
And if anyone would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well.
And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you.
When me and my brother fight sometimes, we tattle on each other.
And my parents don’t like that so much.
Actually, sometimes they even say, well, what did you do first?
My mom also says we don’t play tit for tat in this family.
Do you know what tit for tat means?
It’s okay if you don’t.
I had to ask a long time ago when my mom first said it to us.
It means you do something back to someone just because they did it to you.
So say if someone pushed you on the playground, you don’t go and push them back.
Or if someone calls you a nasty name, you don’t call them that name back.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us when we sometimes want to get back at someone when they hurt us.
Give us the strength and courage to do as Jesus taught, and to turn the other cheek.
In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for this name.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scouting more flowers.
See ya!
