Hello everyone, welcome back.
My name is Evise Brooklyn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Friday, June 14th, and we will be reading Matthew 5, 27-32.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read Matthew 5, 27-32.
If you heard that it was said, you shall not commit adultery, but I say to you that everyone that looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If your right eye causes you sin, pluck it out and throw it away.
It is better that you lose one of your members than your whole body thrown into hell.
And if your right hand causes you sin, cut it off and throw it away.
It is better than you to lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
It is also said, whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.
But I say to you, everyone who divorces his wife except on the ground of unchastity makes her an adulteress, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
The other day I got a paper cut, not a normal paper cut.
It was from a box.
It hurt worse than a normal thin piece of paper.
Then on top of it, we went swimming, and the chlorine made it sting so bad.
The only reason I tell you this story, not for you feel bad for me, but because when you read the scripture today, it says to do all these things to your eye, your hand, your body.
Ah! I don’t think Jesus expects us to tear off parts of the body that cause sin.
I think he wants us to see the seriousness of the problem.
He helps us understand that our eyes and hands aren’t really what makes us sin.
The real problem is in our hearts.
Our hearts have to be purified by having Him in our hearts, and maybe even going to confession to ask for forgiveness.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear Jesus, thank you for dying for our sins.
Please purify our hearts.
Thank you.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya! Bye! Bye! Bye! Bye!
