42. Monday, June 10 2024

Hello everyone, welcome back.

My name is Evie Sprooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Monday, June 10th and we will be reading Matthew 5, 1-12.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now, let’s read Matthew 5, 1-12.

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in the spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when men reveal you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my count.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Did anyone catch how many times the word blessed appeared in this passage?

The word blessed shows up nine times in these twelve verses.

The sermon that Jesus preached is pretty famous.

It’s known as the Beatitudes.

Did you know that the Beatitudes is just a fancy word for blessed?

So Jesus is basically preaching a list of blessings from God.

Today’s reading says the Father will give us good gifts.

We don’t have to have nice things or even be healthy to be blessed.

We are blessed when God is with us in our hearts.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to have the blessings that you want for us.

Blessings that come not from what happens to us, but from what happens inside of us.

In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering my flowers.

See ya!
