40. Thursday, June 6 2024

Hello everyone, welcome back.

My name is Elyse Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.

Today is Thursday, June 6th and we will be reading Mark 12, 28-34.

Follow along in your Bible if you have one.

Now, let’s read Mark 12, 28-34.

And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, Which commandment is the first of all?

Jesus answered, The first is, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Word is one.

And you shall love your Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind and with all your strength.

The second is, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

There is no other commandment greater than these.

And the scribe said to him, You are right, teacher, you are truly said that he is one and there is no other but he, and to love him with all your heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength and love one another’s neighbor as oneself and much more than the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

And then Jesus saw that he answered wisely.

He said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God.

And after that, no one dared to ask him any question.

My mom has this funny video of me when I was just learning how to read the word fox.

I had these flashcards with each of these letters, F-O-X, and I had to say the sound of each letter, F-O-X.

If I got it right, I got to flip over the card.

Well, I got super antsy and wanted to rush the reading.

So I sounded out the F and the O and I yelled out, Fish! Anyway, I thought of this story because in order to read, we have to know what the sound of each letter of the alphabet makes, right?

That lays the foundation to read books.

Jesus says in the reading today that the greatest commandment is to love God and then to love others.

So our foundation is being good Christian is love.

Let’s pray.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to love you with all of who we are and help us to love others too.

Amen.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen.

Thank you so much for listening.

I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.

See ya!
