Hello, everyone, welcome back.
My name is Elise Brooklynn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Wednesday, May 29th, and we will be reading Mark 10, 32-45.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now let’s read Mark 10, 32-35.
And they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them.
And they were amazed.
And those who followed were afraid.
And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him to the Gentiles.
And they will mock him and spit upon him and scourge him and kill him.
And after three days he will rise.
And James and John, the son of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.
And Jesus said to him, What do you want me to do for you?
And he said to him, Grant us to sit on your right hand on the other one on your left in your glory.
And Jesus said to him, You do not know what you are asking.
Are you able to drink the chalice that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism which I am baptized?
And they said to him, We are able.
And Jesus said to them, The chalice that I drink you will not drink, and the baptism which I am baptized you will not be baptized.
But to sit on the right hand or on my left is not mine to grant, but for those for whom it has been prepared.
And then the ten heard it.
They began to engrant James and John.
And Jesus called them to him and said, You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles, Lord, it is over them.
And men great exercise authority over them.
But they should not be so among you, that whoever should be great among you must be your servant, and whoever should be first among you must be slave of all.
For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life for ransom for many.
Have you ever won first place before?
One time I won a raffle drawing that me and my brother both entered.
My brother was pretty bummed, and he thought it wasn’t fair that he didn’t win, and I was only getting the prize.
The prize ended up being super cool, so it wasn’t a big deal, and my brother wasn’t as upset.
Like James and John asking for a special seat in heaven, Jesus reminds us, all of us, that the best part isn’t the seat next to him, but that he is possible for us to live in eternity because he died on the cross.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dear God, help us to live and to serve others like Jesus did.
Thank you.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen! Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
