Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Monday, May 27th, and we will be reading Mark 10, 17 through 27.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read Mark 10, 17 through 27.
And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up a note before him and asked him, Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?
And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good?
No one is good but God alone.
You know the commandments.
Do not kill, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear witness, do not defraud and honor your mother and father.
And he said to him, Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth.
And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, You lack one thing.
Go sell in what you have and give to the poor.
You will have treasure in heaven, and come follow me.
But at the saying, his conscience fell, and he was sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, How hard it will be for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God.
And the disciples were amazed at his words.
But Jesus said to them again, Children, how hard is it for those who trust riches to enter the kingdom of God?
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
And they were extendingly astonished and said to him, Then who can be saved?
Jesus looked at him and said, With men it is impossible, but nothing is impossible with God, for things are possible with God.
I do tap dance.
I go to my class once a week and learn steps to a dance routine that we performed in our spring concert.
The eight girls in the class all knew the dance, but we didn’t all dance the same.
Some didn’t know all the moves.
Some got nervous and forgot some, and some might have done it too fast.
We all wondered, Did we do good enough?
I also like what the man asked Jesus in today’s reading.
It makes us think, How about me?
Do you think I’m good enough to get into heaven?
How about you?
Are you good enough?
Is anyone good enough?
The answer is no.
Jesus says not one of us is good enough to get into heaven on our own.
The Bible tells us that God sent His only Son that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Thank you, Jesus, for coming to die on the cross.
Help us to keep our faith in Jesus since we are not good enough, but Jesus is.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow, scattering more flowers.
See ya!
