Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Monday, May 20th, and we will be reading John 19, 25-34.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read John 19, 25-34.
So the soldiers did this, but standing by the cross of Jesus, where his mother and his mother’s sister Mary, the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene, when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, Woman, behold your son.
Then he said to the disciple, Behold your mother.
And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said to fulfill the scripture, I thirst.
A bowl full of vinegar stood there, so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on his lip and held it to his mouth.
When Jesus had retrieved the vinegar, he said, It is finished, and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Since the day of preparation in order to prevent the bodies from remaining on the cross, on the Sabbath, for the Sabbath was a high day, the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.
So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who had been crucified with him.
But then they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead.
They did not break his legs.
But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water." Isn’t it cool that we see Mary as another mother?
I know when I think about my mom, who is right in the other room, I think of all the fun times we have together and how we make memories together, or even how she forgives me if I did something mean to her.
My mom likes to be there for me, so I imagine how much easier for Mary to be there as a heavenly mom.
Mary is always by your side.
She will never make fun of your failures.
She is always your cheerleader because Jesus gave her to John, and we are his disciples too.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, thank you Jesus for giving us your mother, Mary.
Thank you that she is in heaven praying for us and helping us.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
