Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elyse Brooklyn and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is Friday, May 17th, and we will be reading John 21, 15-19.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one.
Now, let’s read John 21, 15-19.
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?
He said to him, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.
He said to him, Feed my lambs.
A second time he said to him, Simon, son of John, do you love me?
He said to him, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.
He said to them, Tend my sheep.
He said to him a third time, Simon, son of John, do you love me?
Peter was grieved because he said this to him a third time, Do you love me?
And he said to him, Lord, you know everything, you know that I love you.
Jesus said to him, Feed my sheep.
Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you fastened your own belt and walked where you would, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands and another will fasten your belt for you and carry and where you do not wish to go.
This he said to show by what death he was to glorify God.
And after this, he said to him, Follow me.
We have a family pet dog named Jenny Wren.
She is almost four years old.
We love her a lot, but my mom takes care of her most.
She feeds her every day and night.
She gives her bath, brushes her, and even does gross things that no one else likes to do.
My mom says she does it because Jenny Wren is a part of our family, and you show her love by taking care of her.
When we go on trips, we have a trusted person to look after her.
My mom has to show them the list of how much to feed her and where her leash is and the blanket she sleeps with.
We want to make sure she is taken care of while we are away.
In the Gospel reading today, Jesus said to Peter, Feed my sheep and take care of them.
Jesus wasn’t talking about the fuzzy white sheep.
He was talking about the people who followed him and loved him.
Jesus wanted to make sure Peter could feed and care for people who loved and followed him and know that they were going to be fed and looked after.
Here’s something to think about today.
If we were Jesus' sheep, how can we care for one another?
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, thank you for the example of Jesus who gives us mercy and care, so we can share the same mercy and care with others.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen! Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back next week scattering more flowers.
See ya!
