Hello everyone, welcome back! My name is Elise Brooklyn, and this is Scattering Flowers, a podcast where we scatter flowers of faith.
Today is May 1st, and we will be reading John 15, 1-8.
Follow along in your Bible if you have one! Now, let’s read John 15, 1-8.
I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch of mine that bears no fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, so that it bears more fruit.
You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you.
Abide in me and I in you, as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.
He who abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers, and the branches are gathered, thrown into fire, and burned.
If you abide in me as my words abide in you, ask whether you will, and it shall be done for you.
By this my Father is glorified, and that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples.
Do you think if you found a stick and planted it in the ground and watered it, it will come back to life?
No, that wouldn’t work, because you need a living tree.
Branches cannot live or grow when separated from a tree.
The same thing is true about Jesus.
When he says he is the vine and you are the branches, if we stay connected to Jesus, we will grow.
If we are separated, we will not.
We would just be a stick planted in the ground.
Let’s pray.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, help us to remember that without you we can do nothing.
We need you to grow in truth and love.
Amen.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen.
Thank you so much for listening.
I’ll be back tomorrow scattering more flowers.
See ya!
